Areni Analysis: Can Fine Wine Be Scaled? Part One
In a world full of wine lovers clamouring for the top wines, what are producers to do? If they pump up the volume, they will debase the wines. But if they don’t, they risk alienating wine drinkers.
Fine wine producers face a dilemma. It costs a great deal of time and money to produce fine wine, and sometimes the only way to recoup that investment is to produce more volume. But that’s risky, because increasing production can make the wine less desirable.
Is there another way to solve the problem?
Areni Global recently convened a series of online webinars and roundtables, asking participants to weigh in on the question of whether fine wine can be scaled. The group included some of the world’s leading fine wine producers, who contributed what turned out to be unexpected ideas. A major thank you to everyone who participated.
As always, the roundtable was conducted under the Chatham House rules, so participants have not been identified.
Here are their insights into how to grow and scale fine wine, without wrecking its reputation.
